Fun with Mini Photo Shoots!

If you participated in the October 18th or November 1st mini photo sessions, you'll agree that it was a ton of fun and a big success for everyone involved! All of the sessions were quickly snatched up as people were anxious to get photos taken with the beautiful fall colours and capture some great shots for holiday cards and gifts. Each session was a wonderful experience for me and the kids involved really appreciated the short time frame!
October 18th at Kew Beach was one of the most beautiful days of the fall... what luck! It was cool but crisp and the fall colours were absolutely stunning. It was so nice for me to have an entire day to spend enjoying the outdoors with my camera and some really great families.
November 1st at my studio was also a great day weather wise. We managed to work our way through some fantastic studio lit shots and the sunlight shining through the studio windows allowed me to capture some truly stunning natural light images.
Thanks to everyone for helping me make these shoots such a great experience.
Stay tuned for more mini shoot dates... I may even try to squeeze one more in for those last minute holiday shoppers!

The First Holiday Photos of the Season

This past weekend, I photographed the Edwards family. This family is on the ball and booked their shoot with me months ago with the goal of getting their holiday photos done early! They are ahead of me! Anyone want to take my family photos?
The weather was beautiful, more like summer than fall, and the kids were great. To lighten things up with the kids, I got everyone to do silly things like 'ROAR like a Lion!'. My favorite family shot is one where everyone else looks perfect and the oldest child forgot (ya right!) to stop roaring!
My holiday mini shoots are booking up fast. If you'd like to be proactive, like the Edwards family, call to reserve your session soon!

My baby's 1st day of school

Yesterday was my first baby's 1st day of school and I was not at all ready for it. It was not that I was sad about dropping her off somewhere new... I just don't know how so much time has passed between the first moment I held her in my arms and yesterday. How does life fly by like this?
My daughter was very excited to be in her new JK class with her new teacher, Ms. Hofer. She's going to love every minute of school, she's just that kind of kid.
One thing that she wasn't excited about was her 'official 1st day of school photo'!

$1000 Grand Prize Winner is....

Drum roll please!!!

Amy Price of Etobicoke!!!

Thank you so much for your referrals, Amy!

Amy and I worked together earlier this year when I photographed her newborn baby girl. Amy was kind enough to spread the word to her network of Mom's in Toronto and is very deserving of this $1000 prize.

I'm looking forward to seeing you and your family again soon, Amy!

This contest was such fun for me and such a great success that I plan to run it again in the new year! Stay tuned!

Woof Woof

My dear friend Margaret recently lost both her husband and her Mother. Her best friend, Mac, her beautiful German Shepherd, is helping her stay strong and get through the tough times. Margaret and Mac allowed me to photograph them at the Don Valley Brick Works a couple of weeks ago. It was my first 'doggie' photo shoot and I have to say that this dog was SO much more cooperative than most of the children I work with. I think he even smiled for me a few times!
Margaret and Mac, thank you for letting me experience a bit of the wonderful bond you two share.

Baby Love

Tyler and Pamm are expecting their first baby in August and I can tell already that they are going to be wonderfully loving parents. It is unmistakable how much they love each other and the little peanut growing in Pamm's belly. I can't wait to meet their little girl and snap some more love filled photos!

Father's Day

The first annual Kim Reain Photography/Father's Day fundraiser for the Heart and Stroke Foundation was a wonderful experience for all! We will be donating $200 to this very worthy cause thanks to my clients!

One of my favorite shoots was with a couple of munchkins from my neighborhood. The shoot took place long before Father's Day so that we could have everything ready to frame and surprise the Dad of Honour on Father's Day. The question was... could 3 and a half year old 'T' keep the big secret? Believe it or not she DID and her Daddy was thrilled with the photos!

Headshots with Liz and Christine

I've been meaning to write about the fun I had with Liz West and Christine Diakos during a recent 'Headshot' shoot for a couple of weeks now, so here goes!
Liz and Christine came to my studio together at the beginning of May and we had a blast! We enjoyed great conversation, had our morning caffeine boost and got some really great shots.
This photoshoot was my first foray into 'celeb' photography and much thanks to Liz and Christine, I learned a ton from the pros themselves!
It's always so nice when you can mix business with pleasure... thanks for a great morning Liz and Christine!

Another little girl for the Reain Family

It is so great to have so many beautiful little girls in our growing family! We flew out to Calgary a week and a half ago to meet the newest member of the Reain clan... and she's a doll! It was so fun to photograph another fresh little person but it was even better because I'll get to watch this one grow up.
My husband comes from a family of all boys... 4 brothers in total. Ironically, all of the brothers are having baby girls! The Reain girls now out number the Reain boys! I love it!!

Kids Running wild in the Distillery District

Remember how beautiful last Sunday was? It felt like Spring was truly here! Then it snowed on Monday!!! Ah, don't we love April? The good news for me is that I was chasing 3 wonderful kids around the Distillery District last Saturday snapping pictures whenever I could catch them. Most of our running around was outdoors on the beautiful cobble stone streets and through the trees and grass at the south end of the District. The kids were fun, energetic and incredibly patient. Thanks for a great day!

A Boy and his Vacuum

This past Saturday I headed out to Oakville to do a location photo shoot at my best friend's house. I love what I do but I have to admit that I was a bit nervous going into this session since I am so close with this family... what if I wasn't able to capture the shots they were hoping for?
Turns out, I had nothing to stress about! The session was fun, and we got everything we were hoping for... and then some!
My best friend's 3 year old son is obsessed with vacuums so we incorporated his passion into the shoot! He was kind enough to vacuum my backdrop for me... which was much needed after 'Ed', their very large Golden Retriever, graced us with his presence!

Sisterly Love

I had the honour of photographing two beautiful little girls late last week. M is the big sister and is 3 and a half, N is the new baby... born close to 6 weeks early and now 4 week weeks old. M was so much fun to work with - she laughed at ALL of my jokes! I loved her! N slept through the entire shoot, with the exception of about 30 seconds, it was such a breeze to get her to do what I needed to get these beautiful shots.
Although Mom wasn't super excited about being in the photographs to begin with, I was able to capture some incredibly loving moments that I think she'll cherish forever.

Kim Reain: Mother's Day Sessions Available

Kim Reain: Mother's Day Sessions Available

Mother's Day Sessions Available

Mother love is the fuel that enables a normal human being to do the impossible.
~Marion C. Garretty

Mother’s Day is going to sneak up on us before we know it! May 10th is just around the corner! Have you decided what to give the Mom in your life to show her how much she means to you and your kids?
Starting the week of March 16th (MARCH BREAK) I am offering condensed photo sessions in honour of the Moms we really want to thank and show our love to this year!
Mother’s Day photo sessions will be shorter than my typical sessions because we will be focused on getting a specific shot or series of shots for you to present as your gift to her this year. Since the session will be shorter, it will also be less expensive!
Has the Mom in your life mentioned that she’d really like a recent picture of all of the kids together? Maybe she’d like a portrait of the newest addition to your family that matches the ones done for your other children. Is Mom always the one taking pictures? If so, maybe she’d like to be photographed with her babies for a change! Does Grandma want a recent picture of the entire family? This is your opportunity to knock Mom’s socks off with a super thoughtful keepsake gift.
“Operation Surprise Mom”
If you’d like this to be a surprise for Mom and aren’t sure how to occupy her while the photo session takes place, I’ve got that covered too! I will work with Urban Nails, a professional boutique nail spa specializing in manicures and pedicures, to treat Mom to a manicure and pedicure at the same time as the photo session. Tell Mom that you’ll take the kids for the morning or afternoon and that she deserves a break. Drop her off, leave her to enjoy and relax and when she goes to pay, she’ll realize that it has already been taken care 0f! I will book the appointment and arrange payment for you so that everything runs smoothly.
Available Dates:
· March 16th, 18th, 19th, 20th (March Break)
· March 23rd, 25th, 30th (Weekday)
· April 11th (Weekend)
Times:
· Between 9:00am and 1pm – March 16th, 18th, 19th, 23rd, 25th, 30th
· Between 2pm and 4:30 - March 20th only
· Between 9:30 and 4:30 – April 11th only
Session Length:
· Between 45-60 minutes
Session Cost:
· $150 - add $30 for the manicure-pedicure (all taxes included)
Due to the fact that we are working with a limited time frame (1 hour maximum) and within a studio environment, the number of children participating in the session is limited to 3. If a family portrait is the image you are looking to capture, the maximum number of family members participating is limited to a total of 4.
Images from your photo session will be posted on my site for secure viewing within 7 days of our session. I normally present between 30-40 proofs for a standard session, however given the condensed nature of the Mother’s Day session, I will plan to post between 15-20 proofs. We will schedule a time to view the images online together and order your enlargements so they are ready for Mother’s Day.
The session fee of $150 is due at the time of booking your session and is non-refundable. If you are interested in “Operation Surprise Mom”, payment is also due in full at the time of booking your session with me. The manicure-pedicure is fully refundable if the appointment needs to be cancelled for whatever reason up to the morning of your photo session.
Bookings are limited, please let me know if you are interested and I will book you a space.
*This offer is not valid with any other promotional offers currently available through Kim Reain Photography.

Weekend Photoshoot Seminar

This past Sunday, I spent the day learning with a group of photographers. We had the pleasure of photographing beautiful baby Jolene and her adorable brother J.R.. Jolene is 1 month old and J.R. is 2 years old. Both kids were so wonderful to photograph - cute, agreeable and photogenic!

I'd taken a seminar with this group of photographers in the past and really enjoyed learning and collaborating with them all over again.

My First Blog Entry!

Well, it has been a couple of weeks since I sent out my email announcing the birth of Kim Reain Photography and things are going well! As with any new business, there are so many things to take care of behind the scenes! Little by little, I'm attacking all of my little projects and enjoying the journey.

The responses I have received from friends, family and referrals has been overwhelmingly positive and so supportive. I am looking forward to each and every one of my upcoming photoshoots. I am also looking forward to Springtime! As I book sessions in April and May, it helps me see the light at the end of this super snowy and cold winter. I can already smell the lilacs in bloom!

For anyone looking to book a session with me, don't forget that if you book and pay before April 30th, you'll receive a $50 discount from your session fee!

Happy Family Day weekend!
